Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details, especially with December payments coming up. The process is actually different depending on which grant you're on, so let me break it down because getting this wrong means delayed payments.

If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you have to go in person to a SASSA office. Can't do it online unfortunately. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and then they'll give you a Payment Method Change Form. The key thing here is the account has to be solely in your name - no joint accounts or third-party stuff. After you submit, it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify, so if you want it to take effect next month, you need to get it done before the 15th.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's a whole different story - it's all online through the official portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your banking details from there. Same rule applies though: the account must be in your name. The verification takes a few days to weeks after you submit.

For changing your phone number on SRD, there's a dedicated contact details page where you enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, get an OTP sent to verify it, and you're done. But honestly, if the online stuff isn't working, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Better safe than sorry with government money.

Anyone else had issues updating their r350 or other grant banking details? The whole process feels unnecessarily complicated sometimes.
