So if you're getting SASSA grants and need to update your banking details, here's what you actually need to know. The process differs depending on which grant you're on, and honestly, it can be a bit tedious, but it's doable.

For permanent grants like old age or disability, you've got to go in person to your nearest SASSA office—no way around it. You'll fill out a Payment Method Change Form and bring your original ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account (a stamped bank statement from the last three months works). Important thing: the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. Once they process it, the bank takes up to 21 working days to verify, so if you want it active next month, submit before the 15th of this month.

Now, if you're on the SRD grant, it's actually easier. You can update your r350 banking details online through the official SASSA SRD portal without leaving your house. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a secure link via SMS, and you follow the steps to add your new account details. Same rule applies though—account must be in your name. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks, and it only kicks in for future payments.

Changing your phone number? For permanent grants, call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. For SRD, use their contact details portal, enter your ID and Application ID, add your new number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify it. Word of caution: there are fake SASSA websites out there, so always use the official links to keep your info safe. If the online stuff isn't working, just go to your local SASSA office—it might take longer but at least you know it's legit.
