Recently, I saw a circulating photo of 'La Chilindrina' that caused quite a stir on social media, and honestly, something didn't sit right with me. The image showed María Antonieta de las Nieves with a fan, but the features looked strange, as if something had been retouched. A user on X shared it, commenting on her physical state, but many people questioned whether it was real or not.
Here's the interesting part: it turns out the photo is authentic, but someone edited it. The original image was taken in Peru during a tour of the Great Circus Star last August, when 'La Chilindrina' was still performing. The act was called 'Here is La Chilindrina' and traveled to several places in Latin America to honor the character created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
What’s curious is that María Antonieta de las Nieves had already announced her retirement in October 2025. She said that at 75 years old, she needed to rest after a lifetime of nonstop work, so she put away the green dress and the character’s glasses. That’s why it’s strange that a "recent" photo of 'La Chilindrina' has been circulating as if it were from recently.
When some users asked Grok (X’s AI) if the image was real, the answer was clear: it’s manipulated. And they’re right. Comparing the original photo with the one that went viral, there are noticeable differences. In the edited version, the colors are more saturated, especially the reds and greens of the clothing. The contrast is exaggerated, with more defined shadows. The sharpness increased, especially in facial details. The skin tone appears more uniform and warm.
What they didn’t change was the composition itself. The poses, the background, the characters—all remain the same. They only adjusted the visual settings to make it look different. It’s a good reminder of how AI and filters can deceive anyone on the internet. 'La Chilindrina' has already said goodbye, but her legacy continues to be a topic of discussion.
