I just found out that the fines for expired licenses in Edomex have become quite severe in recent months. It turns out that it's no longer a fixed amount like before, but now depends on how many violations you've accumulated. If you have no prior violations, you pay the minimum: $1,876.96 pesos. But if you're one of those who gets fined frequently, it can go up to $2,346.20 pesos. All because they increased the UMA.
What bothers me the most is that in addition to the fine for an expired license in Edomex, your car is also taken straight to the impound lot. That means extra costs for towing and storage that you have to pay. It's like being punished twice. Other violations have also increased: parking in prohibited areas, using a cell phone while driving, speeding... all tiered.
The good news is that if you get current with your obligations, you pay the minimum rate. So it's worth getting regularized. Honestly, the fine for an expired license in Edomex is now quite expensive compared to before. Better to renew your license on time, right?
