Just had someone ask me about how to change bank details on SASSA, and honestly it's not as straightforward as you'd think depending on which grant you're on. So here's the thing - if you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you actually have to go to the SASSA office in person. Can't do it online. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes up to 21 days for the bank to verify everything, and if you want it sorted before the next payment cycle, you gotta submit before the 15th of the month. But if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's different - you can actually do it all online through their portal. Just enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, click it, update your banking details. Pretty smooth process honestly. Either way though, make sure the account is in your name only - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. And if you need to update your cellphone number, same deal - permanent grants need an office visit, SRD grants you can handle online. The phone number thing is actually important because that's how they send you verification codes and payment notifications. If you get stuck, just call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11. Learned this the hard way when trying to help my aunt sort hers out.
