I noticed that this year, AI services for solving homework from photos have become so advanced that a smartphone has turned into a real tutor available 24/7. Just point the camera at an example or an equation — and within a second, you get not just an answer, but a complete step-by-step explanation. This is especially helpful when preparing for exams or when you need to understand a complex topic.
There are plenty of options on the market now, but I’ve highlighted eight services that really work. I’ll start with the most versatile — BotHub. It’s an aggregator platform that brings together ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other models in one place. Convenient because you can choose the neural network suited for a specific task. There’s a free plan with 100,000 caps, enough for regular use. Paid plans cost just a few dollars a month, with significantly more features.
For pure mathematics, it’s better to look at Photomath. It’s a classic — point the camera at an example, and the app instantly provides a solution with a breakdown of each step. Supports both printed and handwritten text. However, it’s narrowly specialized only in math, and full access to all features requires a subscription.
There’s also MathGPT — an online solver that covers not only math but also physics and chemistry. The interface is in English, but the neural network itself understands Russian perfectly. The main advantage — it’s completely free and doesn’t require registration. Upload a photo of the homework or enter the problem in text, and you get a detailed solution with graphs and diagrams.
Wolfram|Alpha is a more serious tool for those preparing for university or already studying there. The system calculates results from scratch, plots graphs, solves integrals and differential equations. It covers literally hundreds of topics. The downside — photo recognition is only in the paid version, and the free mode requires text input.
Gauth positions itself as a universal assistant for all subjects. It started with math and physics, but now includes biology, economics, and languages. Just upload a photo of the homework or describe the problem in text — and get a solution with all explanations.
Mathway is similar to Photomath but with some unique features. Also allows pointing the camera at an example or entering the problem manually. The interface is understandable even for younger students. However, full step-by-step solutions are only available with a subscription, and printed text recognition works better than handwritten.
Symbolab is a smart math calculator focused on formulas. Solves from simple problems to complex integrals, showing each step. Suitable for high school and college students. It also has specialized calculators for physics and finance.
And finally, Nano Banana Pro from Google DeepMind — it’s a whole different level. Not just a solver, but a powerful system based on Gemini 3 Pro that can not only solve problems but also reproduce the solution in the same handwriting or present it as an infographic. Works excellently with text in images, outputs labeled pictures with clear text in multiple languages.
As I see it, each service has its strengths. For school math, Photomath, Mathway, and Symbolab are best — they provide step-by-step solutions for algebra, geometry, and analysis. If you need help with higher mathematics, physics, or chemistry, Wolfram|Alpha is the king. MathGPT covers both math and natural sciences, suitable for students and teachers alike. BotHub and Gauth are more universal platforms, combining different neural networks and auxiliary services.
But honestly, lately I’ve been using more and more universal models like ChatGPT 5.2, Gemini 3 Pro, or Claude Sonnet 4.5. They solve homework from photos across almost any discipline thanks to their extensive knowledge. These “omnivorous” assistants are especially powerful and flexible — capable of handling tasks in any subject and topic. The choice depends on what exactly you need and how much you’re willing to spend.
