Just went through updating my SASSA grant details and it was more of a hassle than I expected, especially with the banking side of things. If you're getting permanent grants like disability or child support, heads up—you can't just do it online. You actually have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office, fill out their Payment Method Change Form, and bring your ID plus a recent bank statement. They need proof that the new account is actually in your name, no shared accounts allowed. The whole verification process takes up to three weeks, so if you're thinking about changing your grant number or account info, do it before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that month's payment.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's a different story—way more straightforward because it's all online through their portal. You just enter your ID number, they send you a verification link via SMS, and you update your banking details from there. Same rule applies though: the account has to be in your name. What caught me off guard was how many fake websites are out there pretending to help with SASSA updates. Definitely stick to the official portal or call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 if you're unsure. Updating your cellphone number is just as important since that's how they send you verification codes and payment notifications. Has anyone else had issues with the phone number change process, or did it go smooth for you?
