⚠️A critical data set showing how similar today’s technology/AI rally is to historical bubbles:

1. What Does Concentration Mean?
In finance, “concentration” refers to the weight of a specific group of stocks within an index. According to the chart, the top 10 AI-focused companies’ share of the S&P 500 has reached 40% today. This means that nearly half of the index’s performance depends on just 10 companies.
2. Historical Comparison
• Railroads (%63): The railroad craze of the 19th century is the greatest market dominance in modern history. Back then, the “new economy” was the railroads.
• Dot-com Bubble (%41): There’s a frightening similarity between the 2000 technology and telecom bubble and today’s AI rally. The current level (%40) is very close to the level before the major crash in 2000.
• Japan Example (%44): In the late 1980s, the weight of Japanese stocks in the world index rose excessively, and then a long stagnation period known as the “lost decades” began.
3. Critical Warning: “Peak” or “New Normal”?
The red circles on the chart indicate that these concentration levels are generally a “peak,” followed by sharp corrections.
• AI Big 10: The chart suggests that the current uptrend (2019–2025) is approaching a similar saturation point. Historically, the 40% level can be considered a “danger zone.”
Conclusion:
This chart carries a cautionary message for investors. The market has never been so dependent on such a small number of companies (except for the railroad era). If some of these 10 giants fall short of expectations, there could be significant downside risk for the overall index.
In light of this data, I’d say that portfolio diversification (not relying solely on technology) is vital in this current period.
AI may have more room to go. The key thing to focus on is not to move without stops. And to take profits as it rises.
