Just realized a lot of people are struggling with changing bank details on their SASSA grants, especially if you're on the permanent grants like disability or old age. Turns out there's a whole process depending on which grant you're on.

For permanent grants, you basically can't do it online - you have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID and proof of the new bank account (a recent bank statement works). They give you a form to fill out and it takes up to 21 working days to process. The tricky part is if you want it to work for next month's payment, you need to submit before the 15th of the current month or you'll get paid to the old account one more time.

But if you're on the SRD R350 grant, changing bank details online banking is actually way easier - you can do it straight through their portal. Just enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your account info there. Takes a few days to verify with the bank though.

For cellphone number changes, permanent grant people have to call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office, but SRD users can update it through the contact portal - you'll get an OTP sent to your new number to verify. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some sketchy third-party site claiming to help you change details.

Anyone else had trouble with this process? The 21-day wait is pretty rough when you need your money on time.
