Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA stuff, so thought I'd share what I've learned. The process is honestly different depending on which grant you're on, which catches people off guard.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you basically can't do anything online. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office with your ID and proof of your new bank account - they want a recent bank statement or an official letter from the bank. The thing is, the account has to be 100% in your name, no joint accounts or anything. They'll give you a form to fill out, send it to the bank, and it can take up to 21 days to process. If you want it to work for next month's payment, you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another month.

Now if you're on the SRD grant (that R370 emergency relief), it's way more straightforward. You can update your banking details online through the official SASSA SRD portal - no office visit needed. You put in your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you enter your new bank details through that link. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify, but at least it's all remote.

Changing your phone number is also pretty different. For permanent grants, you call the SASSA helpline (0800 60 10 11) or visit an office. For SRD, there's an online contact details page where you enter your ID and application number, put in your new number, and they send you an OTP to verify. The SRD grant update system is actually pretty solid if you use the official portal.

One heads up though - there's fake websites out there claiming they can update your SRD grant details. Don't fall for it. Only use the official SASSA links. It's worth the extra minute to make sure you're on the real site, especially when you're dealing with something as important as your grant payments.
