Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating banking details for their SASSA grants. Honestly, it depends on what grant you're getting because the process is completely different.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you basically have to go to your local SASSA office in person. No way around it. You need to fill out the Payment Method Change Form and bring your valid ID plus proof of your new bank account—like a recent bank statement or official letter from your bank confirming it's active and in your name. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that, so make sure it's solely yours. After they process it, the bank takes up to 21 working days to verify everything. The trick is submitting before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect the next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, updating banking details is way easier—it's all online through the SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you just input your new bank info. Same rule applies though: the account has to be in your name. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify.

Changing your cellphone number is important too because that's how they send you verification links and payment notifications. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact details portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, add your new number, and they send an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, you'd need to call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office.

One heads up: there are fake websites out there trying to scam people with grant changes, especially for phone numbers. Always use the official SASSA portal or call the real helpline. Don't click random links claiming they can update your details for you.
