Just realized a lot of people don't know you can actually change your SASSA banking details online now, at least for the SRD grant. Been seeing questions about this everywhere, so figured I'd break it down.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you still gotta go to the office in person. They need your original ID, a recent bank statement (less than 3 months old), and you fill out their form. Then it takes up to 21 working days to process, and you gotta submit it before the 15th of the month if you want it to work for next month's payment. No way around it for permanent grants.

But if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's different. You can actually update how to change SASSA banking details through their online portal without leaving home. Just go to their SRD website, punch in your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you enter your new bank details there. Same thing applies though - account's gotta be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify it.

For your phone number, similar deal. SRD folks can use the contact portal - enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, they send you an OTP to confirm. For permanent grants, you're calling them on 0800 60 10 11 or just going to your local office.

One heads up though - there's fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official links, don't trust random sites claiming they can change your grant details. And if the online thing doesn't work (which happens sometimes), just call them or visit in person. The helpline can actually be pretty helpful if you're stuck.
