Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly change their bank details for SASSA grants without getting stuck in the system. Let me break this down because it's actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't do this online - you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your ID (original and copy), and you need proof of your new bank account from the bank (a statement not older than three months works). They'll give you a form to fill out, send it to the bank for verification, and it usually takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way simpler - everything is online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, you click it and update your bank details right there. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify, but at least you don't have to leave your house. Just make sure the account is actually in your name, not joint or anything.

For changing your cellphone number, same deal - permanent grants need you to visit an office or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11, but SRD lets you do it through their portal. They'll send you an OTP to your new number to verify it's really you. And heads up, there are fake websites out there trying to scam people with this stuff, so always use the official SASSA links.

The whole thing is annoying but honestly it's worth getting right because missing payments is worse. Anyone else had issues with this process?
