Just realized a lot of people are confused about how to update their SASSA details, especially with the December payments coming up. Let me break down what actually works because I've been through this.

For the SRD grant, changing your banking details is actually the easiest part - it's all online through their portal. You just need your ID number, then they send you a link via SMS to verify everything. Takes a few days to process, but way simpler than the old permanent grants system. The key thing is making sure the account is registered in your own name, otherwise they'll reject it.

Now, if you're on a permanent grant (disability, old age, child support), that's a different story - you have to go to the SASSA office in person with your ID and a recent bank statement. No shortcuts there. And here's the thing nobody mentions: if you're doing this before the 15th of the month, it might work for next month's payment. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another cycle.

Phone number updates are just as important because that's how they send you the verification codes. For SRD, same online portal. For permanent grants, call their helpline or go in person. Also, if you're getting cash send, your phone has to be RICA-registered - learned that the hard way.

Seriously, use the official SASSA website only. There are fake sites trying to steal people's info, so be careful. If the online process gets stuck, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Not the fastest, but it works.
