So if you need to update how SASSA pays you, here's what you actually need to do. The process is different depending on which grant you're getting, which honestly confused me at first.

For the permanent grants like old age or disability, you've got to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. There's no way around it online. You'll need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form and bring your valid ID plus proof of your new bank account. A bank statement from the last three months works, or you can get a letter from the bank confirming the account is active and in your name. Important thing: SASSA won't pay into joint accounts or someone else's account, so it has to be solely yours. Once they process it, the bank gets the details for verification, which can take up to 21 working days. If you want it to work for next month's payment, try to submit before the 15th of the current month.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's completely online and honestly way simpler. You go to the official SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click that link, enter your new banking details, and you're done. Just make sure the account is in your name exactly as it appears on your ID. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks, and then future payments go to the new account.

If you need to change your phone number, permanent grant holders should visit their SASSA office or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11. For SRD grants, there's an online contact details portal where you enter your ID and application ID, then add your new number. They'll send you an OTP to verify it. Be careful though because there are fake websites out there trying to scam people, so always use the official SASSA links.

The whole thing takes patience, but keeping your banking details current is pretty crucial if you don't want to miss payments. If you hit any issues with the online process, just call SASSA directly or visit in person.
