Just realized a lot of people still don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially the banking info. Been seeing folks struggle with this, so figured I'd share what actually works.

So here's the thing - if you're getting permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you literally cannot do this online no matter how much you want to. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your ID (original and copy), and proof of your new bank account - basically a bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from your bank. They'll give you a form to fill out, verify everything, and then send it to the bank. Takes about 21 days for it to actually go through, so plan ahead. The deadline is usually the 15th of the month if you want it to work for next month's payment.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's different. You can actually change sassa banking details online through their portal, which is way more convenient. Just go to the official SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure link via SMS. Follow the prompts and update your account info. But here's the catch - the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything. The bank verification takes a few days to maybe a couple weeks.

For your cellphone number, same rules apply. Permanent grants need an office visit, but SRD lets you update it online through their contact portal. You'll get an OTP sent to confirm it's really you. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random link, because there's definitely scam sites out there trying to catch people slipping.

Basically, don't wait until the last minute and always use the official channels. Whether it's banking or phone number stuff, getting this right means your payments actually show up when they're supposed to.
