Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially when it comes to changing banking details for the R350 grant. Thought I'd share what I learned because getting this wrong can mess up your payments for weeks.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't just do this online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your original ID and a copy, plus proof of your new bank account (a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from your bank works). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then they send everything to the bank for verification. This takes up to 21 working days, which is annoying but that's how it works. Pro tip: if you want the change to go through for next month's payment, you need to submit it before the 15th. Miss that and you're waiting another month.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's actually way easier because it's all online. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click the link, enter your new banking details, and boom - you're done. Just make sure the bank account is in your name, not someone else's. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks.

For updating your phone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD users can use the online portal - you'll need your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to your new number to verify. One warning though: there are fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official link or call the real number. Don't get caught out.

The whole process is pretty straightforward once you know what you're doing. Main thing is don't wait until the last minute and definitely don't use anyone else's account. Let me know if you hit any issues with your banking details update.
