Just went through the whole SASSA banking details update thing and honestly it's not as complicated as people make it sound, but you definitely need to know the steps. So if you're trying to change your bank details or do a 350 status check on your grant, here's what actually works.
For the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you can't do it online - you have to go to your local SASSA office in person. Bring your original ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account (bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from your bank). They'll give you the Payment Method Change Form and handle the verification. Takes up to 21 working days after that, so if you need it sorted for next month's payment, submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.
Now if you're on the SRD grant (the R370 one), that's way easier - it's all online through the SASSA portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number, and you just update your bank details from there. Same rule though - account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts.
For changing your cellphone number, same deal. Permanent grants need an office visit or you can call 0800 60 10 11. SRD grants you can do it online through their contact portal - just need your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to verify.
One thing that caught me - make sure you're using the official SASSA website. There's apparently a lot of fake sites trying to get people's info. Also if you're doing the cash send option, your phone number needs to be RICA registered in your name or it won't work.
Honestly the process is straightforward once you know what documents to bring and which portal to use. Just don't miss those deadlines if you want it updated for the next payment.
