I just saw something fascinating on the Bitcoin blockchain. Recently, someone sent 2.565 BTC (approximately $181K) directly to Satoshi Nakamoto's genesis address. Yes, that 2009 address that supposedly has its private keys locked. Basically, it's like burning money on the blockchain, but permanently.

What’s interesting is that this isn’t accidental. The community has been doing this for years as a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, leaving messages embedded in the chain. But this transfer is of a much higher value compared to previous ones. Blockchain data confirms that Satoshi Nakamoto’s total holdings now amount to around 1.1 million BTC, which at current prices represents an astronomical amount locked from day one.

It doesn’t affect the price or the security of the network, but it says a lot about how the community views Satoshi Nakamoto as a mythological figure. It’s more of a cultural ritual than a financial transaction. Every Bitcoin sent there disappears from circulation permanently. Some see it as proof of burning, others as a tribute. Either way, it reinforces the narrative of Bitcoin as scarce, immutable digital money.
