Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grant details, so let me break this down. If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you can't just do it online like you might think. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, and bring your ID plus a bank statement or letter from your bank showing the account is active in your name. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. Takes up to 21 working days to process, so if you want it sorted by next month, submit before the 15th.

Now if you're getting the SRD grant (that R370 emergency relief thing), it's different because the whole system is online. You go to the SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure link via SMS. Click it, update your banking details through that secure page, and you're done. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks though, so don't expect instant changes.

Same deal with updating your phone number - permanent grants need you to visit in person or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11, but SRD grants let you update it online through their contact portal. You'll need to enter your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to your new number to verify. One heads up though - there are fake websites out there pretending to help with this stuff, so always make sure you're on the official SASSA portal. Don't risk your personal info on some random site claiming they can speed up your grant updates.
