Just went through updating my SASSA details and honestly, the process depends on which grant you're on. If you're getting the SRD grant, changing your banking details is actually straightforward because it's all online through their portal. You just need your ID number, and they send you a verification link via SMS. Pretty quick once you get the hang of it, though the bank verification can take a few days to a couple weeks.

But here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't do this online. You have to physically go to a SASSA office with your ID and recent bank statement (can't be older than three months). They'll give you a form to fill out, process it, and then it goes to the bank for verification. Takes up to 21 working days, so if you need it done by next month, make sure you submit before the 15th or you'll be waiting another cycle.

One important note about the SRD grant change banking details process - the account has to be in your name only. No joint accounts or using someone else's account, or they won't process it. Also, if you're using the cash send option, your phone number needs to be registered in your name (RICA-compliant). And please, use only the official SASSA portal for updating anything. There are fake websites out there trying to scam people, especially for phone number changes. If you get stuck, just call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Has anyone else had issues with the verification taking longer than expected?
