Just figured out how to change banking details for R350 and honestly it's not as complicated as I thought, but there are some tricks you need to know. If you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't do it online unfortunately - you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office and bring your ID plus proof of the new bank account (a stamped bank statement not older than 3 months works). They'll give you a form to fill out and send your details to the bank, which takes about 21 working days to process. Make sure you do this before the 15th of the month if you want the change to kick in the next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's completely different and way easier - you can update everything online through the official SASSA SRD portal. They send you a secure link via SMS to verify it's really you, then you just enter your new bank account info. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to confirm. One thing to watch out for: don't use joint accounts or anything in someone else's name, SASSA won't pay into those.

Changing your phone number is just as important because that's how they send you the verification codes and payment alerts. For SRD grants, use their contact details page and they'll send you an OTP to confirm the change. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. Honestly, if you're having trouble with the online portal, just call them directly or go in person - it's usually faster than dealing with website glitches. And please use the official SASSA website only, there's a lot of fake sites out there trying to scam people.
