Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details, especially if you're getting the R370 SRD grant. I've been seeing questions about this constantly, so let me break it down because the process is actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you literally can't do it online—you have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your original SA ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or a letter from the bank). They'll give you a form, you fill it out, and then it takes up to 21 working days to process. The tricky part is getting it done before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect the next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

Now, if you're on the SRD grant, it's way easier—you can actually change your banking details online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your account details from there. But here's the thing: the account has to be in YOUR name, not joint or anything. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify.

Phone number changes work similarly—permanent grants need a visit or a call to 0800 60 10 11, but SRD lets you update it through the portal with an OTP verification. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website and not some random site claiming to help, because there are definitely scam sites out there trying to steal people's info. Honestly, if you're unsure about anything, just call the helpline or go to the office—better safe than sorry with your grants.
