Just realized a lot of folks aren't updating their SASSA details properly and then wondering why their grants are delayed. If you're getting permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you actually have to go to the office in person—can't do it online. Bring your ID and a recent bank statement (less than 3 months old) showing the account in your name only. They'll process it, send it to the bank, and it takes about 21 days to go through. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that cycle.

But here's the thing—if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's totally different. You can change your SRD bank details online through their portal, which is honestly way easier. Just enter your ID number, they'll SMS you a link, and you verify your new account details through there. The bank verification takes a few days to a couple weeks depending on your bank. Same rule applies though: the account has to be registered in your name, no joint or third-party accounts.

Also don't forget to update your phone number if it changed—especially for SRD since they use SMS for verification and payment alerts. You can do that through the contact portal too. And please, use the official SASSA website only. There are scam sites out there pretending to help with this stuff. If the online process gives you trouble, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Honestly, for complicated changes, going in person is sometimes the safest bet anyway.
