I just found out that Greg Abbott is still the governor of Texas and people are still wondering when his term ends. Well, it turns out that his third term ends in 2026, but he technically remains in office until his successor is sworn in in January 2027. The crazy thing is that in Texas there are no term limits like in other places, so Abbott could stay indefinitely if he wins the elections. The guy has been governing since 2014, won again in 2018 and 2022, so he has quite a political influence in the Republican Party. What's interesting is that the governor in Texas has brutal power: vetoes laws, controls the state's military forces, grants pardons, and calls special legislative sessions. Basically, he is the chief executive of the state. And if something happens to him, the lieutenant governor simply takes his place to maintain continuity. So as long as he doesn't lose the upcoming elections, Greg Abbott remains a key figure in Texan politics. I don't know about you, but it's strange that there are no term limits for such a powerful position, right?
