Ray Dalio's Pessimistic Prediction: We Will Enter a More Chaotic Era, and the United States May Be "Unrecognizable" Within Five Years

On May 7th, Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, made a pessimistic prediction in an interview with The New York Times podcast “The Interesting Times”: the next five years may usher in an unprecedented period of turmoil. The five forces of the monetary system, social division, international order, climate change, and AI technology are colliding simultaneously. He especially mentioned the impact of AI: on one hand, it will significantly boost productivity and even alleviate debt issues; but on the other hand, it will exacerbate income inequality, replace a large number of jobs, and could be used for destructive activities such as cyberattacks. These changes could make the United States “unrecognizable.”
