I just found out that in 2025, solving photo-based problems has become really easy. Just point your smartphone camera at an example — and you get a fully analyzed solution from a photo. This is not a joke; it works thanks to neural networks that have learned to recognize formulas and handwriting.
I tested eight popular services that have implemented this. Photomath is basically a legend among students; point the camera at an equation and get a step-by-step explanation. But it only works with math. MathGPT is more interesting — it includes physics and chemistry as well, plus it’s free and doesn’t require registration. Upload a photo of a problem, and in a couple of seconds, you get a solution with graphs.
Wolfram|Alpha is more serious; you can plot graphs, solve integrals, and do pretty much anything. But photo recognition is only available in the paid version. Mathway is similar to Photomath, but with a more user-friendly interface. Symbolab is good for students — it provides detailed explanations for each step, including complex formulas.
And then there’s BotHub and Gauth — more versatile platforms; they cover not only math. Gauth includes biology, languages, economics. There’s also Nano Banana Pro from Google DeepMind — a very powerful tool that can even reproduce the answer in the same handwriting.
Overall, if you’re a student or schoolchild, your choice depends on what you need. For pure math, Photomath or Mathway. If you study different subjects — Gauth or MathGPT. And if you need serious calculations and graphs — Wolfram|Alpha. Is anyone still using these services? Which one is better?
