Just realized a lot of people still don't know how to properly update their SASSA details. The process is actually different depending on whether you're on a permanent grant or the SRD R370 thing.

If you're getting old age, disability, or child grants, you gotta go to a SASSA office in person—can't do it online. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (stamped statement from the last 3 months works), and you have to fill out a Payment Method Change Form. They send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in the next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.

But if you're on the SRD grant, it's all online through their portal. Way easier—just enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, you click it and update your banking details. Same rule though: account has to be in your name, no joint accounts or anything.

For your phone number, permanent grant people should call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD users can update it on the portal too, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. Just be careful with fake websites trying to get your info.

Seriously, if your details aren't updated, you could miss payments. Worth taking the time to sort it out properly.
