Just realized a lot of people don't know the proper way to update their SASSA details, especially if you're on the SRD grant. The process is actually pretty different depending on which grant you're getting, so I figured I'd share what I learned.

If you're on SRD and need to change your banking info, the good news is it's all online through the official portal—way easier than the permanent grants. You just need your SA ID number, and SASSA will send you a secure SMS link to verify everything. The whole thing takes a few days to weeks for the bank to confirm, but at least you don't have to queue at an office. One thing though—the account has to be in your name exactly as it shows on your ID. No joint accounts or anything like that.

For changing your phone number on SRD, you go through the same portal, enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, and they send an OTP to verify it. If the online thing doesn't work (which happens sometimes), you can call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or email them. But honestly, for SRD changing banking details and phone numbers, the online route is usually smoother if you've got your Application ID handy.

If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability though, that's a whole different story—you actually have to go in person to a SASSA office with your ID and bank statement. Takes longer, but it's the only way they'll do it. Just make sure you submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.
