Just realized a lot of people don't know how to change bank details for their SASSA grants properly. Been getting questions about this, so thought I'd share what actually works.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you gotta go in person to the SASSA office - no way around it. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Important thing: the account must be only in your name, no joint accounts or anything. Takes about 21 working days to process after they send it to the bank.

For the SRD R370 grant, it's way easier - everything's online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your banking details there. Still takes a few days to verify, but at least you don't have to go anywhere.

One more thing - if you're changing your phone number too, do that through the same portal or call them on 0800 60 10 11. The phone number matters because that's how they send you the verification code. And heads up, if you're changing bank details before the 15th of the month, it'll take effect next month. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another cycle.

Always use the official SASSA website, not random links floating around. Seen too many scam sites pretending to help people change their details. Just being careful with this stuff saves a lot of headaches.
