Just realized a lot of people are struggling with their SASSA payment updates, especially when it comes to changing banking details. Thought I'd share what I learned because the process is actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're on a permanent grant like disability or old age, you pretty much have to go to the SASSA office in person—no way around it. You'll need to fill out a payment method change form and bring your ID plus proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement works). The whole thing takes up to 21 working days to process, so if you need it sorted for next month's payment, submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.

Now, the SRD grant is way different. That's all online, which is actually convenient if you know where to look. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. From there you can update your banking details pretty quickly—just make sure the account is in your name, not joint or anything like that.

The cellphone number update is equally important because that's how they verify everything. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact portal where you enter your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to confirm. For permanent grants, you might need to call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit in person depending on how complicated your situation is.

One thing I'd warn about—there are fake websites out there claiming to help with these updates. Always use the official SASSA link or call the legitimate helpline. Your grant depends on getting this right, so it's worth taking the time to do it properly. Anyone else been through this recently?
