Just realized a lot of people are confused about how do i change my banking details with SASSA, so thought I'd share what I've learned going through this myself.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Yeah, I know it's annoying but that's how it works. When you get there, ask for the "Payment Method Change Form" and bring your original ID, a copy of it, and proof of your new bank account. A bank statement from the last three months works, or just get a letter from your bank confirming the account is active and in your name. One thing they're strict about—the account has to be ONLY in your name, no joint accounts or anything like that.

The office will process everything and send it to the bank for verification, which takes about three weeks. If you need the change to happen next month, you gotta submit before the 15th. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another month.

Now if you're on the SRD grant (that R370 one), it's way easier because everything is online. You just go to the SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS. Click the link, enter your new bank details, and submit. Takes a few days to verify but it's straightforward.

For your cellphone number, it's similar process—permanent grants need an in-person visit or you can call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11. SRD grants you can update online through their contact portal using your ID and Application ID. Just make sure you verify with the OTP they send you.

Pro tip: always use the official SASSA website or go in person. There are fake websites out there trying to scam people, so be careful with that. And if the online portal gives you trouble, just call or visit the office—sometimes it's faster than fighting with the system.
