Just realized I needed to update my SASSA banking details after switching banks, and honestly the process depends on which grant you're getting. If you're on permanent grants like the disability or child grant, you can't do this online—you have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. They'll give you a form to fill out and you need to bring your ID and proof of your new bank account (like a bank statement from the last three months). The whole thing takes up to 21 days to process once the bank verifies it.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's different. You can actually update your SASSA banking details online through their portal, which is way easier. You just enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you add your new account details. Still takes a few days for the bank to verify but at least you don't have to leave your house.

One thing that caught me off guard—they won't pay into a joint account or someone else's account. Has to be in your name exactly as it shows on your ID. Also if you need to change your phone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11, but SRD users can do it through the online portal too. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website and not some dodgy third-party site trying to scam people. Definitely learned that the hard way from a friend.
