Russia should take the opportunity to stop now! Taking nearly one-fifth of Ukraine's territory, this achievement is already unique in the world since World War II! Whether domestically or internationally, it is enough to explain everything!

Looking at the international landscape after World War II, territorial annexation has long been considered taboo in the international community. No major power can rely on force to securely take nearly 20% of another sovereign country's territory. Russia now, in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has gained an unprecedented geopolitical advantage after the war.
Currently, Russia controls Crimea and four eastern Ukrainian provinces, totaling about 20% of Ukraine's territory, holding the industrial and energy core of Donbas and key seaports along the Black Sea, completely breaking Ukraine's intact geopolitical map.
From a historical perspective, all regional wars since World War II, whether regional conflicts or great power struggles, have ultimately ended with the restoration of pre-war borders and negotiated boundary agreements. Almost no one has permanently swallowed large parts of neighboring countries' territory. Russia's current gains have far exceeded the initial goal of "demilitarization and denazification."
Continuing to fight hard would be counterproductive: prolonged war drains the economy, exhausts military strength, and plunges into a war of attrition; Western aid to Ukraine will only prolong the conflict into a low-intensity, decade-long attrition war.
Personally, I think if Russia were a bit smarter, it should take the opportunity to consolidate its current control zones. Pushing for a final showdown will only lead to long-term internal exhaustion and be counterproductive. What do you all think? $ETH
