I recently came across a topic — it turns out you can now just take a photo of a problem and get a complete solution from the photo. I didn’t believe it actually worked, but I tested it on several services. It’s crazy, honestly.
I started with Photomath — an app that scans problems with the camera. I uploaded a photo of an equation, and it provided not only the answer but also a step-by-step explanation. It works with handwritten and printed text. However, it only covers math — it doesn’t solve physics or chemistry. Full access requires a subscription.
Then I tried Wolfram|Alpha — that’s a whole different level. You can input text or photos (in the Pro version), and the system doesn’t just find the answer, it computes everything itself, plots graphs, shows integrals, differential equations. It covers hundreds of topics — from basic math to physics and statistics. A very powerful tool for serious problems.
Mathway is similar to Photomath but with a slightly different interface. It also provides photo solutions in seconds and shows steps. The downside — full detailed solutions are only in the paid version; in the free version, steps are hidden.
And there’s MathGPT — an online solver that doesn’t require registration and is completely free. It solves math, physics, and chemistry. The interface is in English, but the neural network understands Russian. Upload a photo of a problem — and you get a detailed solution with graphs and diagrams if needed.
Symbolab I used for more complex things — it has a good mathematical calculator with step-by-step explanations. You can upload images, it recognizes both printed and handwritten text. Suitable for students who need integrals and advanced calculus.
There’s also Gauth — a more versatile assistant that covers not only math but also biology, languages, economics. It also supports solutions from photos and text input.
BotHub is interesting because it’s an aggregator — it provides access to different neural networks (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude). You can choose a model for your task. There’s a free plan with 100,000 caps, enough for several queries.
In my opinion, if you need specialized math — Photomath or Mathway. For higher-level math and physics — Wolfram|Alpha. If you want to cover multiple subjects at once — MathGPT or Gauth. And yes, modern universal models like ChatGPT 5 or Gemini Pro also handle tasks across disciplines quite well thanks to their capabilities. Overall, optical recognition technology plus powerful AI is already a reality. Your smartphone has become a 24/7 tutor, no joke.
