Google Restructures Health API: Vital Sign Data Fully Integrated Into AI Agent; the Old Fitbit Interface to Shut Down This September
CoinWorld News, Google announced that it will upgrade the original Fitbit app to Google Health and launch a redesigned Google Health API. The new API abandons the independent authentication system, migrating to Google Cloud architecture and OAuth 2.0, reducing the barriers to integrating health data such as heart rate and sleep into AI applications. The new API consolidates over 100 legacy endpoints, offering 31 core data points, including exercise and blood oxygen (SpO2). The platform introduces a “Coordination Flow” mechanism that automatically handles data conflicts between multiple devices and supports webhook real-time notifications and fine-grained permission controls. This overhaul marks the end of the old ecosystem, with Google confirming that the legacy Fitbit Web API will be shut down in September 2026, requiring existing applications to rewrite code and reauthorize.
