According to Trump's speech at the White House on May 8th, the U.S. may resume the "Freedom of Navigation Operations," aimed at clearing ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump stated that he thinks the move is a good idea but also pointed out that there are other approaches.
If diplomatic progress stalls, the U.S. can relaunch the initiative as an upgraded version and take additional measures beyond the original plan.
Trump also expects to receive Iran's response later that day to the U.S. proposal for bilateral negotiations.
