#PolymarketDaily
As we approach the 2026 FIFA World Cup (the first with 48 teams from the United States, Mexico, and Canada), prediction markets and betting odds have clearly identified a group of favorites.
Based on Polymarket data from May 8, 2026, trading volume and "Yes" odds indicate that the competition between European powerhouses and the defending champions is very close.
Currently popular (May 2026)
France 17% Currently the top favorite. Boasts a deep roster and peak-performing Kylian Mbappé.
Spain 15% Last European Championship 2024 winner. Due to the recent injury of Ramin Yamar, odds have shifted slightly, but he is expected to play.
England 11% Has a "Golden Generation," with Bellingham and Kane, but the market is concerned about their consecutive misfortunes in the knockout stages.
Argentina 9% Last champion. Although Messi is 38, the core squad that won in Qatar remains largely unchanged.
Brazil, under Carlo Ancelotti, has shown more organized defense, with stars like Vinícius Júnior, with odds at 9%.
France and Spain have the highest liquidity on most platforms. Investors rely on France’s pure athleticism and Spain’s tactical cohesion.
While some betting sites slightly favor Spain over France, Polymarket currently leans more toward France. This discrepancy often leads to high trading volume, as users try to profit from the "undervalued" Spain team.
Unexpected contenders: Portugal (about 8%) and Germany (about 6.7%) have seen increased "Yes" bets after recent strong performances. Especially Germany, which is on a seven-match winning streak heading into the tournament.
Host nation enthusiasm: The United States and Mexico are considered less likely (about 1-2%), but there is great interest in bets on them reaching the quarterfinals.
My opinion: If I were to "vote" in the prediction market today, considering their recent success in major tournaments, Spain seems to be the most disciplined choice, but purely based on talent, France would be a safer bet.
The tournament kicks off on June 11, just over a month from now, so these percentages could change significantly after the opening match in Mexico City!
