Per capita bonus of 6.1 million; do security guards and drivers also receive it? The truth behind SK Hynix's sky-high bonuses
Recently, news about “SK Hynix Korean employees receiving an average bonus of 6.1 million RMB” has gone viral on social media, and there are also rumors that this “sky-high dividend” will cover all positions, including security guards, drivers, and front-desk staff. In fact, the 6.1 million yuan that has sparked heated discussion is not a bonus already distributed by SK Hynix to its employees, but rather a forward-looking estimate based on institutional forecasts of the company’s performance. In September last year, SK Hynix reached a new labor agreement: 10% of operating profit would be allocated as employee performance bonuses. According to projections by international investment bank Macquarie Securities, SK Hynix’s operating profit in 2027 will reach 447 trillion won. Simply calculating 10% of operating profit and the total headcount of about 35,000 employees at the end of last year, the total dividend pool would amount to approximately 44.7 trillion won; the bonus per employee could be about 1.29 billion won, which is 6.1 million RMB.
