CertiK: The probability of offline violent crimes in cryptocurrency increases, and family members become a new risk point

Odaily Planet Daily reports that CertiK’s findings show that in the first four months of 2026, there have been 34 “wrench attacks” (offline violence or coercion to obtain crypto assets) worldwide, a 41% increase year-over-year, with total losses of approximately $101 million.

The report indicates that attack patterns are shifting toward “data-driven” methods, meaning attackers gather information about victims in advance and include their family members and other “proxy targets” in the threat scope to exert pressure.

Regionally, Europe accounts for 82%, with France being the most concentrated. Industry experts believe that such attacks have become a significant security risk for crypto asset holders.
