POLAND: HACKERS BREACHED 5 WATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Poland's Internal Security Agency said it detected attacks on five domestic water treatment plants where intruders could have taken control of industrial equipment, in a worst case tampering with the water supply.
The agency disclosed the breaches Friday in a report covering the past two years of operations. Polish intelligence did not specify whether the water plant attackers were Russian government operatives, but the report named Russia as the country's most serious sabotage threat.
US water utilities have faced similar threats. In April, CISA, the FBI, and the NSA warned that Iranian-backed hackers were actively targeting programmable logic controllers at American water and energy facilities. Iranian group CyberAv3ngers previously breached multiple Pennsylvania water plants in 2023.
