Mars Finance News: On May 8, according to The Guardian, British sprinter CJ Ujah—who won a gold medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2017 World Athletics Championships—is one of 10 suspects charged with alleged “conspiracy to commit fraud.” The case stems from a police investigation into cryptocurrency scams. It is alleged that the suspects belong to an organized crime group involved in a scam: the criminals contacted multiple victims by phone, posing as police officers or cryptocurrency company personnel to carry out the fraud. The police said victims were induced to disclose sensitive security information, including “mnemonics,” and then discovered that the funds in their cryptocurrency wallets had been stolen. One victim reportedly lost more than £300,000. The arrests and charges were carried out by the UK East Regional Task Force after investigations conducted in Kent, Essex, and London. All 10 suspects appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
