BlockBeats News, May 8th, according to The Guardian, British sprinter CJ Ujah, who won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay at the 2017 World Athletics Championships, is one of 10 suspects charged with “conspiracy to fraud.” The case stems from an investigation by police into cryptocurrency scams.

It is alleged that these suspects belong to an organized crime group involved in a scam: the criminals contacted multiple victims by phone, impersonating police officers or cryptocurrency company personnel to commit fraud.

Police stated that victims were induced to disclose sensitive security information, including “mnemonics,” after which their funds in cryptocurrency wallets were stolen. One victim lost over £300k.

The arrests and charges were carried out by the UK East Regional Task Force following an investigation in Kent, Essex, and London. All 10 suspects appeared in Margate Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
