Australian police seize $4.1 million worth of Bitcoin involved in dark web market illegal activities

New South Wales police in Australia, after a 15-month investigation, seized 52.3 Bitcoins valued at approximately 5.7 million AUD (about 4.1 million USD), and arrested two suspects allegedly operating the Sydney Ingleburn dark web market.
The police stated that the seized Bitcoin is related to dark web illegal activities involving drug and weapon trafficking. The operation was carried out by the State Crime Command Cybercrime Squad Strike Force Andalusia, and is considered one of the largest dark web-related cryptocurrency seizures in Australia. Meanwhile, AUSTRAC has recently strengthened anti-money laundering regulations for domestic virtual asset service providers and cryptocurrency exchanges.
