Just caught CVR's Q4 earnings - they actually beat on revenue even though the EPS miss was smaller than expected. Posted $1.81B in revenue versus consensus of $1.74B, so that's solid. The loss per share came in at -$0.8 versus -$0.84 expected, which sounds like a win on paper but the stock's still down over 11% YTD while the market is basically flat. Worth noting that CVR has beaten revenue estimates 3 out of the last 4 quarters, so there's some consistency there. The real question now is whether management's guidance on the earnings call gives investors any reason to be optimistic about the next quarter. Current consensus is expecting -$0.02 per share for Q1 with $1.72B in revenue. The bigger picture though - the entire oil and gas refining sector is in the bottom 14% of industries right now, which means CVR is fighting headwinds that go way beyond just company performance. If you're watching CVR or similar energy names, keep an eye on those estimate revisions over the next few weeks. They tend to move stocks more than the actual earnings themselves.
