So I just found out my dog can actually have oranges and honestly it's kind of a game-changer for summer treats. Like, I was peeling one the other day and my pup was looking at me with those eyes, and I was curious if it was safe. Turns out it is—just gotta be smart about it.

The key thing is you can't just hand them the whole orange. Remove the peel and seeds first because those actually have some gnarly stuff in them that's not great for their digestive system. Then you're looking at maybe 1-3 slices max, and it should only be like 10% of their daily food intake. Any more than that and they'll probably get an upset stomach or worse.

What's cool is oranges are packed with stuff dogs actually need—vitamin C, fiber, potassium, all that good stuff. Plus they're like 90% water so on a hot day it's basically a hydrating snack. My vet mentioned it's especially good if your dog needs to lose weight since there's not a ton of calories.

Obviously don't give them canned oranges or orange juice from the store because those are loaded with sugar. Fresh is the way to go. And if your dog has diabetes, skip it entirely because of the sugar content.

I'm gonna start using orange slices as an occasional treat instead of the usual dog biscuits. Just keeping it reasonable so my dog doesn't get sick. Definitely worth asking your vet first though, just to be safe.
