Just caught up on how crazy the silver market has been this year. Silver hit over US$121 per ounce back in January - absolutely wild. Even though it's pulled back a bit since then, we're still talking prices way above that 40-year previous high of around US$50. The structural supply deficit and industrial demand are real, plus investors are treating silver as a cheaper hedge compared to gold. So naturally, the best silver stocks canada has to offer have been running hard.
I was looking at the top performers on the TSX and TSXV, and there's some interesting moves happening. BP Silver on the TSXV is up 56% year-to-date - they're working the Cosuño project in Bolivia and just dropped some impressive drill results. One hole came back at 1,655 grams per ton of silver over a meter. That's the kind of grade that gets people excited in the exploration space.
Highlander Silver has been another solid performer, up 41% so far. They just completed a merger with Bear Creek Mining and landed a US$40 million strategic investment from Eric Sprott. That kind of backing usually means management is confident about what they're sitting on. They've got the San Luis gold-silver project and the Corani silver project in their portfolio.
Honey Badger Silver is up nearly 29% and just closed an C$11.5 million private placement to fund their PC silver project acquisition in the Northwest Territories. That's a permitted underground project with serious infrastructure already in place.
The bigger names have moved too. First Majestic Silver - literally the world's second largest silver miner - is up 23% year-to-date. They're guiding for 13 to 14.4 million ounces of silver in 2026 across their Mexican operations. Silvercorp Metals, the fourth biggest by market cap, is up 22% and just reported US$126.1 million in quarterly revenue, up 51% year-over-year. They're producing out of China with plans to expand at their Ying mine.
What's interesting is that all these companies - from tiny exploration plays to billion-dollar producers - have benefited from the same tailwind: silver's structural story and the fact that it's become the best silver stocks canada investors can access right now. Whether you're looking at early-stage exploration or established producers, the sector's had a solid run. Definitely worth keeping tabs on how this plays out for the rest of 2026.
