So I've been spending way too much on gas lately and decided to actually do some research instead of just pulling up to whatever station is closest. Turns out there are some solid apps that make it super easy to find the cheapest gas in your area.

GasBuddy is probably the most obvious one - they have this whole website and app dedicated to finding cheaper gas by location. Google Maps actually shows gas prices at nearby stations too, which is convenient if you're already using it for navigation. Waze does something similar, and even Geico has a gas finder tool built into their site if you want to search by address.

The key thing I learned is that you really do need to check prices before you leave home. I used to just drive around looking for deals, but that defeats the purpose since you're burning through gas the whole time. Kind of defeats the savings.

Beyond just finding the cheapest gas, there are other ways to cut costs. Costco and Sam's Club both offer discounted gas to members, which adds up if you fill up frequently. A lot of gas stations have rewards programs too - you can rack up discounts per gallon pretty easily. And honestly, just planning your errands better helps. Group your trips, drive less often, and your tank lasts longer.

If you're paying with a credit card, that matters too. Some cards give cash back or rewards on gas purchases, which is basically free money if you're already buying gas anyway. The right card could actually make a real difference over time.

It's wild how much you can save just by being a little strategic about how to find cheapest gas and not being lazy about checking before you fill up.
