U.S. airlines spent $5.06 billion on jet fuel in March, up 56% from February as war-related oil disruption lifted fuel costs. Per-gallon prices reached $3.13, up nearly 31% from February. The Kobeissi Letter said total fuel costs rose $1.83 billion month over month, while United Airlines and American Airlines cut their 2026 outlooks. Spirit Airlines also suspended operations early on May 2, citing higher oil prices and broader business pressure.
