Bitwise CEO: DeFi won’t disappear; not all treasuries are equally reliable
Crypto News: According to Coindesk, Hunter Horsley, co-founder and CEO of Bitwise, stated at the Miami Consensus 2026 conference regarding the “recent negative sentiment shift in the DeFi sector,” “I believe DeFi is still doing very well.” The recent specific incident involved operational security issues, not a hack of smart contracts. He also believes that the crypto industry is rapidly entering the mainstream, and both DeFi and on-chain treasuries need to respond to this moment; the treasury has only been around for two years, “not all treasuries are equally reliable, those who entered early need to do more homework.” Yoni Assia, co-founder and CEO of eToro, also said that DeFi “is an inevitable future.” During the roundtable discussion, several guests predicted the future five-year DeFi TVL: eToro CEO Yoni Assia projected $5 trillion; Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley projected $500 billion; a16z Crypto partner Guy Wuollet refused to give a specific number, only saying “my number is up and to the right.”
